Happy 1st Birthday, Fauxology!
Loose Change June 19th, 2008Fauxology is now one year old! I remember when it was just a twinkle in my eye and then it was wee small upon birth and now it’s kinda-sorta ready to start walking! Amazing how time flies — I can’t even believe I’ve officially written 123 blog posts!
I originally started the blog as part of our Garay Artisans website and then decided to just change it to www.Fauxology.com — it’s been so fulfilling to not only have an outlet to share my love of faux and design but to also have so much positive feedback and a real sense of community. I hope we are here together next year…and thank you for coming along this grand road trip of ours through the land of visual magic.
Yours,
Faux Girl

Regina, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to FAUXOLOGY!!! Blogs, walls, furniture, inspiration…you touch it and it’s transformed into a source of beauty. I’m addicted to the site, and as usual have a question. The color of the venetian plaster in a guest bathroom is very similar to the “orange-infused terracotta” in your post on April 27, ‘08 and the ceiling is silver leafed. (Yep, still working on that room - white shower tile; beigy floor tile). I’m going to use a gel stain on the vanity (Nope, don’t know what I’m doing) which is being made, but have no clue about whether to go light, med., dark, ash, red tone, etc. (No natural light in the room) Any suggestions? Also, will add crown moulding and new baseboards., and need suggestions for their paint color. Stand by for more questions as I tackle the master suite later.
Thanks much -

Hi, Jo…and thank you! Time flies when you’re having fun (cliche but so true). I think I’m going to use your question for a future Mailbag but I have a few questions for you in the meantime on the gel stain: 1) water or oil-based?, and 2) Is the vanity raw wood or are you doing a finish on it? LOVE the crown molding idea and I think you should embrace the fact that there is no natural light and just make it a warm, cozy place to be in. Would you consider Modern Masters’ English Brown for the crown & baseboards? It’s a dark chocolate brown metallic color but it is beautiful and it would play nicely against the silver leafing, the venetian plaster and beige floor tile. Let me know…

Hi, Regina, I really appreciate your response. 1)Wood-Kote Jel’d Stain oil-based; 1a) Valspar water-based topcoat using HVLP; 2)Raw maple wood vanity; 2a) Looking for the perfect piece of onyx for the countertop. Will definitely consider using MM English Brown for the crown & baseboards. I love their metallics. There will be a tall cabinet immediately to the left at the doorway, so I’m really concerned about the tone of the wood that’s going to leap out as one enters the room.
Thanks again -
